Women Editors: Pioneers and Modern-day Trailblazers
Kristina Kromer, Atlanta’s prolific film editing unicorn, has been a staple on our crew as a Moonshine Post editor since our early years. The history of women editors in film has evolved alongside the development of cinema itself. From the pioneering days of Margaret Booth in the early 1910s to the recognition of Dorothy Spencer’s work during Hollywood’s studio system era, women have left indelible marks on the editing landscape. Notable figures like Dede Allen and Thelma Schoonmaker continued to break barriers in New Hollywood, setting the stage for modern-day editors like Kristina Kromer.
Moonshine’s Unicorn Editor Upholds the Legacy
Meet Kristina Kromer, a versatile editor at Moonshine Post, whose contributions span across various mediums and genres. With seven years of experience under her belt, Kristina has etched her mark on acclaimed projects like “Creepshow,” “Kemba,” as well as storytelling for major ad agencies, like MAJORITY.
In her role as an editor on “Kemba,” Kristina emphasizes collaboration, communication, and the transformative power of shaping a film’s final product. Her ability to seamlessly transition between long-form narratives and advertising campaigns highlights her adaptability and dedication to every project she undertakes.
“As the editor, you’re the first person who gets to start to shape what the final film will look like. You get the script and the storyboards and the inspo that everyone went into production with but you sit with the footage longer than anyone else and start seeing how it’s all going to come together,” she added.
Atlanta Editor in the Ad Space
How do Kristina’s editing skills in the long-form narrative space inform her work in advertising campaigns? As an editor – but first a foremost, as a storyteller – Kristina seamlessly transitions between long-form storytelling and advertising campaigns.
“Ads are basically mini movies. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you’re cutting- you’re ultimately trying to get information across and invoke emotion,” Kristina explained. “The only things that change are the information you want to convey, the emotions you want to achieve and the amount of screen time you have to do it.”
Collaborating with Kristina at Moonshine Post
Kristina’s collaborative spirit and enthusiasm shine through in her work. Her ability to navigate diverse challenges and adapt to different styles makes her a standout editor in the industry. Overall, Kristina’s expertise resonates with her colleagues across multiple departments.
“We landed a project from the Atlanta advertising community and after talking with both the agency and the production company about the creative, I instantly knew that Kristina was a perfect fit for the project,” said Moonshine’s Advertising Post Producer, Jen Sienkwicz. “Her extensive background in the film and TV world has given her such a wide breadth of editorial styles to pull from her toolbox: scripted narrative, unscripted docu-style, comedy, drama – she’s literally done it all.”
“In the world of social, your content has a maximum of 10 seconds to catch your audience’s attention. With an innate understanding of the post-production audience, social platforms and their dynamics, Kristina possesses a unique ability to craft content that not only captivates but compels,” said Gennifer Allen, Moonshine’s Social Media Manager.
Over the course of their tenure at Moonshine, Hannah Rockette, Producer and General Manager, has collaborated closely with Kristina, fostering a professional relationship that has propelled both individuals to remarkable achievements.
“I’ve worked with Kristina for 6 years, and I’ve witnessed her remarkable journey firsthand as she grew into confidence and skills, all while navigating a male-dominated field. She’s adept at independent management, and skilled in fostering positive relationships with both clients and producers. Overall, she’s a joy to work with and I’m grateful she’s on our team because she’s a rock star,” praised Hannah.
Kristina’s journey underscores the talent and resilience of women editors in a historically male-dominated field. With each project, she channels her energy and vision, elevating storytelling to new heights.
